In her ten-part series "Calm II" Anna Domnick grapples with the visualization of an intellectual as well as physical disintegration. The intense exploration of landscapes, an autobiographical element, which she brings into her artistic work, is transformed in "Calm II" into an almost complete abstraction from the actual subject. In five minimally varied landscape pictures, a radically low horizon reveals the vastness of the sky arching above it. The landscape is reduced to strips of colour lingering at the very bottom of the picture. Topography comes in the form of layered pigmentation.

These pictures are then paired with reflections of a female body — two nude backs arranged as a diptych, two pictures of skin and an outline that disappears into black. In alternating sequences of landscape and body, Anna Domnick visualizes the process in which mental and physical disintegration go hand in hand. While landscape sublimates itself into a spiritual space, the physical in the central piece of the series, disintegrates more and more into the blackness of the pictorial ground. Both, as well as body, are condensed into a vision of deterritorialization of body and mind.
